Once Upon a Time in the BWCA

We recently paddled a loop in the Superior National Forest. It is located outside of the BWCA so it is a little bit different. People can bring chainsaws to cut firewood if they want and they can use small motors. Some things reminded me of what the Boundary Waters used to be like.

When we first started outfitting trips into the BWCA there were portage rests on long portages, picnic tables on some campsites and signs at portages. While they no longer exist in the BWCA it was convenient and useful to have them again.
