Oh What Fun

Oh what fun It is to ride in a 22 person powered dragon boat.  We had a terrific time in Grand Marais during the Dragon Boat Races.  I never went to look at Team Gunflint’s times or standings because the day and the races aren’t about winning or losing but about having fun for a good cause.

The Dragon Boat Races are a fundraiser for three of the local non-profit groups in Grand Marais.  The North House Folk School, WTIP Radio and the North Shore Health Care Foundation all beneit  from the money raised at the festival.  Paddlers come from all over to participate with teams from the Twin Cities and Canada.  There are a number of teams from Cook County that race each year too.

The Grand Marais Harbor is hopping during the races with folks mingling and visiting all over.  Spectators enjoy watching the boats speed through the water and listening to the sound of the beating drums.  Our team had fun dodging the rain showers, paddling our hearts out and spending the day with friends on the edge of Lake Superior friends on the edge of Lake Superior.
