Oh Canada and other news

It’s official, folks can now apply for and receive a Remote Area Border Crossing Permit and travel into Canada via Saganaga Lake. It’s been a very long wait but the wait is over and folks can now visit the Quetico Park via the Cache Bay Ranger Station. Visitors must also complete the ArriveCAN but it’s just a simple step that takes minutes to complete.

Something that didn’t take minutes to complete was the new rock stairway between Duncan and Rose Lakes. Previously wooden stairs were in place at the 80 rod portage but they have been replaced by Willie Bittner, the owner of Wisconsin based Great Lakes Trailbuilders. We’re hopeful they will hold up much longer than the wooden ones.

The Gunflint Trail Canoe Races will be held this Wednesday, July 20th. This is a fun event for folks of all ages and abilities and a fundraiser for the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.
