Northwood’s Visitors
It isn’t uncommon to have visitors at Voyageur, but we have had some uncommon visitors lately. One evening I opened the back door to let Rugby out and much to my surprise I saw his twin! It was a small, black and white critter with a long bushy tail. "Wait a minute," I thought, " That’s not Rugby, that’s a skunk!" I quickly picked up Rugby and closed the door. I’m not sure who was more scared, me, Rugby or the skunk. Thankfully the skunk didn’t spray us and we now know what has been getting into our garbage.
A nice sized doe has been hanging around lately as well. She likes to eat the grass on our mound septic system and doesn’t seem to mind our other frequent visitor, Freddy. Freddy the fox, or Freida, or Fran has been coming by for his/her daily handouts. All our neighbor has to do is whistle and the fox will follow him home for a treat.
Another type of visitor that frequents our house in the fall is mice. They are looking for a warm place to live for the winter and seem to think my place would be perfect. My cat and dog must agree because they haven’t caught it yet or even attempted to catch it for that matter. I will do my best to make it feel unwelcome. One way I do this is to scream or stomp my feet when I see it, not a warm welcome by any means. Hopefully it will take a hint and leave before I have to resort to more drastic measures.
If you are in the neighborhood then please stop in for a visit, we’d love to see you here.
