Moose Madness
Looking for something to do this weekend? Head on up the Shore for Moose Madness.
Moose Madness Family Festival
October 17-19, 2008About the Festival
Grand Marais is crazy for Moose Madness! It’s rutting season, and signs of moose are all over town – especially in shops, cafes, lodging facilities and many locations outdoors. Our favorite alces alces, Murray, will be around town for the much sought-after photo opportunity, and moose-related activities are planned for everyone!Schedule of Events
The moose medallion search begins Friday morning and continues throughout the weekend until the medallion is found, worth 2 nights’ lodging at East Bay Suites and a local restaurant certificate. The East Bay Suites shuttle makes several trips up the Gunflint Trail, so you’ll have the opportunity to join in on a moose quest.
Test your writing skills with the moose poetry contest, sponsored by the Cook County News-Herald, and create a moose cartoon – you might get published in the Cook County Star! The secret word scavenger hunt runs both Friday and Saturday, which takes you into several of our downtown shops. Drury Lane Books features the Muffin Man and Moose-a-Rama, and the Grand Marais Art Colony offers special art projects Friday and Sunday.
The Lake Superior Trading Post is running a new trivia game for ages 4 and up called Camp – try it! Stop in Northern Light Jewelry and Gifts to make your moosetacular bracelet either Friday or Saturday, and make a moose kite on Saturday afternoon. Remember that the Pie Place becomes the Mocha Moose Cafe and Poetry Salon – a free slice of pie awarded to those who read some poetry aloud. Joynes Ben Franklin (America’s most unusual BF) sponsors the coloring contest, and Sivertson Gallery and Lake Superior Trading Post both have Count the Moose Droppings contests…nice! Lake Superior Trading Post is also hosting two book signings, one for "Agate" (the moose everyone loves!) and "Waterfalls of Minnesota’s North Shore". The Market Artists Series presents an artisan both Friday and Saturday afternoons.
More events are in the works, and the daily schedule will be available here by October 8th. There is something for everyone, so check it out!
