Ham it Up Today

Today is the day I’ve been waiting for;  it’s time for some Ham Run Fun.  This event would not have been possible without the help of a number of dedicated volunteers.  The hours they have devoted to making this day a safe and enjoyable one have been many.  Radio communications, traffic control, signage, volunteer coordination, registration, advertising and an endless list of tasks and responsibilities have been completed and today over 100 volunteers will spend over 8 hours making the Ham Run a reality.  In recognition of the efforts made by these wonderful folks in our community we invite you to join us on the Gunflint Trail for a day of fun.

We’re hoping people will take advantage of the transportation provided from Grand Marais.  However, we know some people will choose to drive so we have information online explaining where to park and how to get around on the Gunflint Trail today.

For the safety of participants, spectators and volunteers we ask for the cooperation of all residents and visitors traveling on the Gunflint Trail.  The Half-Marathon begins at Gunflint Pines Resort and Campground on Gunflint Lake at 10:00AM on Sunday.

South Gunflint Lake Road

will need to be kept clear of all traffic from approximately 9:45am until 10:20am or until all runners reach the Gunflint Trail.  From

South Gunflint Lake Road

to the end of the Trail the traffic will be restricted from 9:45am until approximately 1:30pm.  Runners will be taking up one full lane of traffic and for their safety as well as yours and the volunteers we ask you to please refrain from driving your personal vehicle in this area except in the case of an emergency only.  The Trail will gradually open up as the runners make their way to the end of the Gunflint Trail.  If you must travel on the Trail then you will be required to wait for a pilot car to lead you through the race route.  Your cooperation and patience are appreciated as we expect long delays.

The Ham Run is a community event so come and show your support to the volunteers and participants of the Ham Run.  Come ham it up on the Gunflint Trail today.
