Gunflint Weather
January will leave us locals with our heads shaking. Just what was this strange weather we experienced this month? Just this past week we were blessed with almost 9 inches of new snow and we were all overjoyed. The ski trail groomers were working overtime and the snowmobilers were loving the fresh powder. Then just as quickly as it arrived it disappeared on the 27th when our high temperature for the day was a balmy 43 degrees. We still have a great base of snow but this warm weather just doesn’t feel right in January. The forecast for the first week of February calls for more of the same temperatures with daytime highs in the 20’s and 30’s. It’s great to be able to go out and enjoy the snow without freezing, but we’re going to lose our bragging rights for how tough we are if we don’t get some cold weather soon.
