Gunflint Trail News

Missing blueberry picker Paul Brandt has not been found after 6 days of searching. It sounds like the official search is over. Many volunteers including Mike Prom, chief of the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department, spent hours working to find him. Unfortunately it’s rugged terrain that has been affected by the blowdown in 1999 and the Ham Lake Fire of 2007. Lots of downed, burned trees, stumps and new growth make travel very difficult.  If you’re in the woods near the Seagull Guard Station/Helibase then keep your eyes out for any sign of him.

If you want to support the Gunflint Trail Fire Department then come on up to the Gunflint Trail next Saturday for the Mid-Trail Fundraiser.

MidTrail Auction & Quilt Raffle at Fire Hall #1 on Thursday, Aug. 8 from Star News

The MidTrail Live Auction, Boutique, Flea Market and Quilt Raffle will be held this year on Thursday, Aug 8, 2013 at the Fire Hall #1 on the Gunflint Trail, 1 mile south of Trail Center Lodge.
Organizers say the doors will open at 1:00 p.m. with the Live Auction beginning at 1:30 p.m. The quilt raffle drawing will be held around 3:00 p.m.
One of the organizers, Lee Zopff encouraged everyone to make the trip to MidTrail to enjoy the event. “There will be something for everyone at every price range and all proceeds go to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department. Come and have treats in our new Schaap Community Center. Do your Christmas shopping or find a treasure for your home.
Live auction and flea market items include a set of “Cabin in the Snow” dishes, a gift certificate for a sleigh ride, pine needle coiled baskets, a Panda Bear, two diamond willow tables, pictures of moose, table cloths, runners, pillows and “who knows what else!”
Zopff said, “Rain or shine, be there!”
