Driving on the Gunflint Trail

The maximum speed limit on the Gunflint Trail is 50 miles per hour and there are places posted where it’s even slower.  Be sure to keep this in mind if you are coming to Voyageur this summer as we’d hate for you to begin or end a trip with a ticket.  Besides other vehicles and pedestrians to watch out for there is the wildlife to consider as well.

This year there will be some road construction happening as well so plan your travel time accordingly so you can arrive safe and sound.

GUNFLINT TRAIL PROJECT TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

The $2.0 million bituminous replacement project on CSAH 12 (Gunflint Trail) is scheduled to begin the week of June 2nd and be completed in early August, the Cook County Highway Department announced today.

Ulland Brothers of Cloquet, MN, will be the contractor for the 4.8 mile project, which runs from Fox Ridge Road to the Cross River.  The project includes repair or replacement of numerous culverts, removal of the existing pavement, and placement of new bituminous pavement.  Alignments and profiles will not be corrected as part of this project.

According to County Engineer David Betts, traffic will be restricted to one lane as culverts are replaced.  He urged motorists to plan accordingly and to drive with caution in all work zones.
