Dragon Boat Races

On July 29th and 30th I will be down in the Grand Marais Harbor participating in the 2nd annual North Shore Dragon Boat Festival.  Dragon Boat Racing is a sport that originated in China over 2000 years ago.  The boat is a long and narrow and looks like a dragon, scales and all!  Last year we had a team participate from the Gunflint Trail and we had an absolute blast.  The boat holds up to 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersman.  The drummer sets the pace to paddle by and the steersman keeps the boat steady in the appropriate lane.  The paddlers give it there all for the short couple of minutes it takes to complete the .5 kilometer race.  If you aren’t busy that weekend then be sure to come on up and join in the excitement of Dragon Boat Racing.
