Catching Lake Trout on the Gunflint Trail
I told you the lake trout fishing was good over the opening weekend outside of the BWCA but you don’t have to take my word for it. The Conservation Officers patroling the Gunflint Trail found several folks who had more fish than their limit. I guess there’s such thing as too much of a good thing. Come on up toVoyageur this weekend and see just how good it is!
CO Troy Ter Meer (Lake Superior Marine Unit) worked winter trout opener in Lake and Cook counties. Officer assisted in taking enforcement action on three over limits of trout.
CO Thomas Wahlstrom (Tofte) monitored anglers, ATVs and snowmobilers this past week. The Officer checked trout anglers around the Gunflint Trail during the trout opener with area officers. Overall, anglers were happy with the warm weather and some nice trout on the ice.
CO Darin Fagerman (Grand Marais) worked with several officers on a trout opening detail. Fishing was very good, in fact too good for some who didn’t stop when they reached their limit.
CO Dan Thomasen (Two Harbors) worked the opening of the winter trout season along the Gunflint Trail in cooperation other officers. The mild weather and low snow depths brought anglers out in large numbers, as travel and access were easier than most years. Trout angling success was very good – a little too good for some anglers, as multiple over limits were discovered on opening day.
