Alpine Lake Fire Update
We are starting to relax again at Voyageur. The information we have received and heard from the USFS has been very good. It sounds like they are confident in their ability to hold the fire from coming dangerously close to the houses and businesses at the end of the Gunflint Trail. Fire lines have been reinforced with fire retardant and sprinklers in an effort to contain the fire. There have been some back burns done to help reinforce fire lines as well. You can read more information about the details of the fire at this website. There are currently 181 people on the fire some of who are being transported via helicopters and boats to work on the fire. The fire is in a remote location and some of the crews will be camping out in the wilderness. There are a few campsites closed on Alpine, Grandpa, Seagull, Red Rock and Saganaga Lakes, 16 in total according to the USFS. The number of acres burned so far is 960. With tomorrow’s forecast calling for cool temperatures, very light wind and a chance of rain, we feel very safe at the end of the Trail.
