5th Annual Mush for a Cure
Today’s the day we’ve been waiting for since last March, it’s the 5th Annual Mush for a Cure Sled Dog FUNdraiser on the Gunflint Trail. The day’s festivities begin at Gunflint Pines Resort on Gunflint Lake with a hearty pancake breakfast open to the public. It’s a great opportunity to mix with the mushers and start the day off with a good breakfast.
At least one skijor participant will be making their way across Gunflint Lake from the Cross River before the mushers begin their fun. You won’t want to miss the start of the Mushing Event when mushers crawl into their sleeping bags for the sourdough start. After the National Anthem is sung, the shotgun will sound and the mushers will scramble out of their bags and hustle to get their teams ready to run.
There are viewing spots along the Gunflint Trail for spectators to watch teams go by. They will be marked with pink ribbons. Folks can catch the teams finishing at Trail Center and while there they can enjoy some good eats, music and a kid’s carnival. If you’re feeling strong then see how fast you can pull a dog sled as spectators cheer you on.
Don’t miss the night’s "mane" attraction as KQDS Jason Manning and WTIP Bob Carter face off to see who will go home bald. If enough money is raised then Musher Mark Black will also go home with a shaved head.
Get your pink on and head on up the Gunflint Trail for a fun-filled FUNdraising Day.
