13,000 Acres

That’s how many acres have been burned so far during the Cavity Lake Fire.  The winds this afternoon have been blowing at around 12 miles per hour with gusts up to 21 miles per hour from the Northwest.  This along with the 37% humidity are making things quite interesting at the end of the Gunflint Trail.  Smoke currently fills the sky as aircraft work to try and keep a perimeter around the fire.  Severe weather in the area last night was not expected and that combined with lack of resources for overhead teams caused the fire to gain a little more momentum.  The crews will do their best to keep the fire at bay today and away from any structures.  Depending upon how the day goes and what the forecast is for tomorrow things could get even more interesting.
