Weekend Fun
There are a few things to look forward to this weekend, especially if you will be up in our neck of the woods.
The Cook County Vikings Football team will play in the first round of the State Championship games on Saturday. The game will be held in Duluth at the Public School Stadium at noon. The team is made up of a great group of kids and we wish them the best of luck.
If you happen to be driving up the shore then be sure to stop at Split Rock Lighthouse. There will be a special program commemorating the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Beacon Lighting and Commemoration of the Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald Split Rock Lighthouse, Two Harbors MN Dates: Nov. 10 & 11 Time: Noon to 6 p.m. Fee: $4 for all ages 6 and above. MHS members free.
This annual event commemorates the sinking of the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975. A film about the Fitzgerald will be shown in the Visitor Center theater throughout the afternoon. The lighthouse and fog signal building will be open and staffed from noon to 6 pm. The lighthouse will close temporarily at 4:30 and the names of the 29 lost crewmembers will be read to the tolling of a ship’s bell. Following the ceremony, the beacon will be lit and the tower once again opened for visitors to tour. This is the only time during the year to see the lighted beacon from inside the lighthouse. This two-day event will feature the same program both days.
I’ve always wanted to take part in this event so we’ll have to see if this is the year or not.
Last, but certainly not least, is celebrating the birth of my daughter. Yep, it’s Abby’s 8th birthday on Saturday, November 10th. I can hardly believe she is turning 8 already. She received an early birthday present when she was able to swim with a dolphin in Panama City Beach, Florida.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend with lots of fun.
