Support the GTVFD

     I’m always saying the Gunflint Trail is a great place to live.  It’s an even better place to live if you are a member of the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.  The year round and summer residents of the Gunflint Trail are continually showing their support for the volunteers.

    The residents of the Gunflint Trail make it well-known they appreciate their volunteers.  Many people volunteer their time and talents to make the Annual Canoe Races a huge fundraising success.  This year was the 30th year of the canoe races and they raised $18,500 for the department. 

     Today the Mid-Trail Property Owners will hold their annual auction and quilt raffle at Trail Center.  Donated items will be up for bid beginning at 1 PM and tickets have been sold for a beautiful quilt made by the Mid-Trail quilters. All of the money raised goes to the GUnflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department.  

   This year there will be another event to support the GTVFD.  On August 26th, there will be an Appreciation Party, Barbecue, Awards and Dance at the Landing at Devil’s Track Lodge.  Many of the volunteers from the entire county will be present as well as the GTVFD members.  The Social Hour will begin at 4 PM with dinner to follow at 5 PM.  Tickets are being sold for $35.00 by various volunteers and will be available at the Trail Center during today’s Auction.  A short awards program will take place and then the public is welcome to attend the dance free of charge from 7-10 PM.  Come show your support and join in the evening of fun.  You can call me at 388-2224 for more information or e-mail me.
