Boundary Waters Entry Points Closed

Here we go again… Due to the recent fire activity the following entry points into the Boundary Waters will be closed until September 22nd, 2006.

45 Morgan
47 Lizz & Swamp
48 Meeds
49 Skipper and Portage

These entry points are in the mid-Gunflint Trail area, mainly from Poplar Lake with the exception of Morgan. The Red Eye and Famine fires are a good distance from the Gunflint Trail probably 5 and 10 miles respectively. There is smoke and ash blowing to the North of the fires and into the Loon Lake area on the Gunflint Trail. At this time no other fires have been reported in the area. CL 215’s have been called to the fire and people have reported hearing them in the area. The USFS anticipates implementing a Level I Fire Restriction which means campfires will only be allowed from 7 PM until Midnight.
